Vanilla Ginger Peach & Black Magic Smoothie

Adding something fresh and alive to your smoothie base is an simple way to change up your daily blend and be creative. Greens like spinach, kale, and romaine lettuce are an addition well masked by cocoa powder & fruit and are successful in a blender when whizzed up prior to your fruit or ice so the plant fibers get an opportunity to break down. Fresh fruits beautifully hold their own and provide a necessary punch of vitamins and minerals and pure fructose energy (smoothies are a great opportunity to get in your dose of Vitamin C which we need to replenish everyday!) Herbs like mint and basil are also a wonderful shot of chlorophyll and flavor that go well with chocolate and fruit bases.

Vanilla Ginger Peach

1/2  cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk

1/2 cup coconut water

1 inch fresh ginger root, grated

1 cup frozen peaches

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 tbs maca root powder (a powerful adaptogenic-hormone stabilizing and gentle stimulant with a subtle butterscotch flavor)

1 tbs chia seeds (source of omega fatty acids & prolongs the life of your smoothie as the seeds expand in the stomach)

I love to make my smoothies on the thicker side so I can spoon them up out of a bowl or mug. You can create a smoothie bowl as a foundation for delicious & filling toppings like fresh fruit, oats, nuts & seeds, coconut flakes or dried fruits which add another dimension of texture and interest.

Black Magic 

This smoothie is a bit on the wild side with its super food supplement additions that are completely optional but fun if you’re up for the challenge.

1 cup almond milk

1 cup romaine lettuce (or choice of greens)

1 tsp spirulina (powerful source of phytonutrients & vegan protein, 2 g per tsp-start small if you’re unfamiliar with the taste!)

2 tbs dark cocoa powder

1 tbs maca root powder

1 tbs raw cacao nibs

1 tsp psyllium husk & 1 tsp coconut flour (optional thickening agents)

1 tsp vanilla extract

pinch Himalayan sea salt & vanilla stevia

Topped with extra cacao nibs, raw buckwheat groats, and chopped dried plum
